Named by President Obama as “snowmageddon”, Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland are experiencing record-breaking snowfalls. All three areas have declared national emergencies, allowing them to mobilize the National Guard to help cope with the unprecedented snowfall. The current storm has put Baltimore over the top for its snowiest season on record. As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, 11.9 inches of snow had fallen since Tuesday at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. That brings the total snowfall since December to 72.3 inches and is the most since record-keeping began in Baltimore in 1893. The previous record, from 1995-96, was 62.5 inches
